SUMMARY:Book Study: Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science\, Nature & Spirit (Hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Read and discuss practices and experiences that “root” our relationship with the natural world Rooted\, by Lyanda Lynn Haupt\, is a beautiful book that ties science\, the experience of nature\, and spirit together in a multitude of ways\, providing prompts that lead us deeper into these relationships. \n“In a time that evokes fear and paralysis\, rooted ways of being-within-nature assure us that we are grounded in the natural world. It means everything we do matters\, and matters wondrously.” ~Lyanda Lynn Haupt \nParticipants will learn more about practices and experiences that strengthen our relationship with the natural world. They will also gain an appreciation of how science\, nature and spirit are in perfect harmony. \nThis is a 4-week book study meeting on Tuesday evenings. Participants can join online or in person. SUMMARY:Men Exploring Faith (hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Join with a small group of reflective men about the transformations we go through as we age second & fourth Thursdays\, 4–5:30 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nBehavioral scientists and spiritual guides have noted a major transformation in the life direction of many men as we mature. It may happen gradually or abruptly\, as early as our 20s or in our 50s or 60s. Some men never make this shift\, described as a change from goal drivenness to receptivity\, from ego to wisdom. The transition can start from the inside (Why am I doing what I’m doing?) or the outside (from a loss or threat)\, and it may seem disruptive while on the way to being life-enhancing. \nJoin with a small group of reflective men at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) in honest conversation about these changes. This group meets in person with an online option available on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month and is facilitated by Linzy Martin. \nRegister Now: https://pw.retreatportal.com/calendar/event?programcode=26PWS33893

SUMMARY:Contemplative Living with Thomas Merton (Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Delve into the truths of human existence using the writings of Thomas Merton first & third Thursdays\, 7–8:30 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nJoin the Merton Group as we slowly explore New Seeds of Contemplation\, one of Thomas Merton’s best-loved books. SUMMARY:Men Exploring Faith (hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:Join with a small group of reflective men about the transformations we go through as we age \nsecond & fourth Thursdays\, 4–5:30 p.m. \nA free-will offering will be gratefully accepted on the next screen. \nRegister Now: https://pw.retreatportal.com/calendar/event?programcode=26PWS33894

SUMMARY:Circle of Trust: Summer Flourishing
DESCRIPTION:Participate in a day-long retreat\, based on Parker Palmer’s idea of a “hidden wholeness” within us\, where we will explore our authentic selves in community with others \nSaturday\, June 27\, 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nCircle of Trust© retreats offer participants an immersive experience of the Courage & Renewal© approach. Sponsored by the Center for Courage & Renewal (CCR) founded by Parker Palmer\, it is based on Palmer’s idea of a “hidden wholeness” within us. \nIn this time together at Prairiewoods\, we will co-create trustworthy space to do our own inner work in community with others. Discovering who we authentically are and aligning our inner and outer lives—or “soul and role”—is an ongoing\, life-long process that happens through discovering\, listening to\, and following our “inner source of truth\,” named in various wisdom traditions as identity\, true self\, heart\, spirit\, or soul. This source of guidance and strength helps us find our way through life’s complexities and challenges. Poems\, stories\, songs\, artworks\, somatic activities—all drawn from diverse cultures and wisdom traditions—will offer opportunities to contemplate\, reflect upon\, and share insights regarding authentic relationships with society\, nature\, and spirit in order to inspire the soul to speak in a community of support and trust. As we listen to the wisdom of each person’s inner teacher\, honor each person’s identity and integrity\, and renew a courageous spirit\, we journey toward personal and societal wholeness. \nEach Circle of Trust gathering will have a seasonal theme and will invite participants to engage in full-group\, small-group\, and individual reflection\, discussion\, and activity\, including opportunities to connect with the beautiful natural grounds at Prairiewoods. These Circles of Trust are open to all\, regardless of background or belief. The goal is to deepen understanding of one’s deepest self—one’s soul—especially in relationship to community\, society\, Earth\, and the spiritual realm as each circle member defines it. Participants are welcome to come to one\, some\, or all of our circle gatherings. \nThe cost is $50 per session. \nRegister Now: https://pw.retreatportal.com/calendar/event?programcode=26PWS34195

SUMMARY:Forest Bathing with the Full Moon
DESCRIPTION:Experience a sensory-focused practice that invites us to slow down and be present with self and the natural world \nWednesday\, Jun. 29\, 7–9 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nJoin Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) and certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide Emelia Sautter for a walk with the natural world. Experience Nature and Forest Therapy\, also known as Forest Bathing\, a sensory-focused practice that invites us to slow down and be present with self and the natural world around us. According to the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy\, “Forest Therapy is a practice that supports health and wellness through guided immersion in forests and other environments to promote the well-being of both people and the land. It is inspired by shinrin yoku\, the Japanese practice of ‘Forest Bathing.’” \nMuch research has been done on the healing and therapeutic benefits of Forest Therapy. Hundreds of clinical and non-clinical studies show numerous positive effects\, including reductions in stress\, anxiety\, depression\, mental fatigue\, anger and pain. Improvements include better cognitive functioning\, sleep\, mood\, confidence and creativity. Time with our nature kin also boosts our immune system\, regulates blood pressure\, improves relationships\, increases feelings of gratitude and much more! \nThis is a trauma informed practice\, and all are welcome. This is not exercise or hiking; it is a slow\, sensory walk with the land. \nThe cost is $25\, and registration is required by noon. \nRegister Now: https://pw.retreatportal.com/calendar/event?programcode=26PHN34603
