“Values according to which we conduct our lives will shape the future.”
—Jeremy Lent, The Web of Meaning, p. 5
So what are the values that enliven Prairiewoods? What is the future emerging here? For that I look to the core values of the Franciscans who founded Prairiewoods so many years ago.
Respect—We honor one another and all creation, recognizing all are gifts of God.
Compassion—We care for one another and serve others with generosity, love and kindness.
Partnership—We empower the spirit of teamwork to strengthen relationships in service to our mission.
Hospitality—We joyfully welcome all as an image of the divine. There are no strangers here.
Integrity—We strive to do what is right and best, think of others, and work to be people of goodness, humility and honor.
Discovery—We bravely cultivate a path of personal and communal growth.
These values are alive here at Prairiewoods—in the open-hearted greeting of all who cross the threshold, in the tender care of the land and the creatures, in the reverence for the presence and the gifts of God all around us. It shows up in the healing touch and the mindful attention of the many who come here to serve and to learn. And it shows up in the courage to work toward a more beautiful future that has not yet arrived.
Come, all are welcome here. Come, find your joy. Come, get grounded, nourish your spirit and join us in enlivening this future.
