The topic for the day was “faith journey.” I wrote this poem some time ago for a gathering of the Women in Interfaith Dialogue, a group that has been meeting for many years at Prairiewoods (now virtually). I share it here in honor of the Interfaith Women, hoping that we are finding nourishment for body, mind and spirit; and in memory of the group’s extraordinary leader, the Rev. Dr. Barbara Schlachter.
PEREGRINES
Peregrine, the word at its heart,
is to travel a foreign land,
a journey of faith,
sometimes uncharted.
Wanderers, walkers, pilgrims,
seeking food for body, mind, and spirit,
needing shelter, needing rest,
traversing turns in roads,
meeting in peace.
We are all sojourners,
finding welcome at life’s waysides,
nourished by the stories
we share with each other.
