The Women of Interfaith Dialogue group gathered virtually for the season of spring. I wrote this poem for the occasion—with great appreciation for Creation’s gift of flowers! Which of your senses are you appreciating the most today? Maybe try writing a poem about it?
EXQUISITE GIFT
Oh, the palette of petals,
the multitudes of flowers,
the olfactory lure of lilies and lilacs,
the roses romancing,
jasmine and orchid entrancing,
daisies, daffodils, even dandelions dancing –
I am dizzy with this amazing artistic, aromatic delight!
I must pause to rest, to breathe,
deeply, the calm, the balm for my body and spirit –
the blossoms of apple, cherry, orange, and plum,
the blissful scent of lavender and geranium.
Earth’s exquisite, elaborate, extravagant gift –
flowers, soft, sweet,
above, below, beside
my head, my hands, my feet.
Let me dream, in day, in night,
of orchards and hedgerows,
walkways, gardens, and meadows,
all full of the fragrance
of goodness, of mercy, of joy, of peace.
