Music brings resilience and strength. A story, an invocation or a verse shared in song travels beyond reaches of rational thought to make its home in the soul’s memory.
In his 1964 book Why We Can’t Wait, Martin Luther King Jr. said that song was the soul of the Civil Rights Movement. Hope and determination flow through song to reach the soul. We Shall Overcome.
When voices join in harmony, they articulate a beautiful agreement. This agreement is an expression of the oneness our souls long to remember.
Speaking, though, is a much slower way to the heart. It travels through different channels and is rigorously tested for authenticity and intention. Music communicates beyond the limitations of words, yet makes its intention known.
Do you have songs that have carried you though times of struggle?
We might not be gathering, but these kinds of songs are easy to find and share. If the heart is open, a song can travel vast distances, beyond time and space to find you. It has power of a different kind, and sometimes that’s just what we need.
